The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the authorities of Georgia to immediately hand over Mikheil Saakashvili, to Ukraine.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses a categorical protest regarding the inhuman treatment of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, who is behind bars in Georgia.
In the worst traditions of the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR, the Georgian authorities are using psychological and physical violence against Mikheil Saakashvili, denying him the urgently needed medical assistance, and intentionally creating a direct threat to his life. The gross violation of human rights against the citizens of Ukraine contradicts Tbilisi’s declared course of joining the EU and indicates a deviation from democracy in Georgia.
We call on the Georgian authorities to immediately stop insulting Mikheil Saakashvili and hand him over to Ukraine”, - reads the statement of the Ministry.
