People’s Power will submit the bill on transparency of foreign influence during the Parliamentary Bureau session on February 20.
The proposed legislation envisages the registration of such non-commercial legal entities and media outlets as agents of foreign influence if they derive more than 20% of their income from abroad.
According to the authors, the aim of drafting the proposed legislation is to ensure transparency.
“Everyone suspected of being a foreign agent must be registered in the public registration in database with the same name. The received income must be reported at the time of registration. According to the project, the organizations will be required to fill in the financial declaration every year”, - reads the draft proposal
The bill authorizes the Ministry of Justice to conduct research.
The organization will be punished for failing to register as an agent of foreign influence or for failing to complete the declaration.
The bill received quite critical evaluations from the West. Nevertheless, People’s Power claims that the Georgian version is much more liberal than the similar law in America.
