For the April 29 by/extraordinary elections, the Election Administration (EA) of Georgia and local observer organizations signed the Code of Ethics.

By signing the document, the Central Election Commission (CEC) and local observer organizations agree that they will be guided by the legislation of Georgia, and internationally recognized standards and will promote the fair and transparent conduct of elections by fully observing the principles of respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms within the April 29 elections.

The event was opened by the Chairperson of the CEC, Giorgi Kalandarishvili. He stated that “elections are common and, therefore, strengthening the cooperation between the stakeholders in elections is one of the priority directions for the EA. As per the mentioned approach, today we signed the Code of Ethics, which was drafted by the joint effort of the CEC and non-governmental organizations. The aim pursued by the code is the improvement of the election environment and supporting the conduct of elections in fair and transparent conditions in compliance of internationally recognized principles”.

The importance of observing the code was discussed by the representatives of the non-governmental organizations. According to them, such an agreement will significantly improve the election environment and promote the conduct of elections in line with international standards.

Today the Code of Ethics was signed by 11 local observer organizations registered for the April 29 By/Extraordinary elections. The code is open for signature by the organizations registered in the relevant time limits in order to observe the mentioned elections.
