Government of Georgia sets the upper limit on patient co-payment share for medical expenses

Legal amendments to the Government Decree N36 on Measures for Transitioning to Universal Health Insurance dated February 22, 2013. According to the proposed adjustment, a ceiling is set as an upper threshold on the co-payment for healthcare services from the side of a patient.

This decision was made by taking into account the best interests of patients and with an aim of increasing the access to superior quality healthcare services to the population.

Namely, co-payment share will be 10% for pension-age individuals, however the amount cannot exceed 500 GEL; co-payment share will be 20% for healthcare services delivered to children aged under 5, children with disabilities, persons with acute disabilities and students, however the amount cannot exceed 1000 GEL; also, 30% is set as a co-payment for the use of basic package, not exceeding 1500 GEL. Current franchise of 500 and 1000 GEL is removed within the scope of a basic package.
