300 oncology patients, children, will receive full financing from the state

On our decision, 300 oncology patients, children, will receive full financing from the state. We have selected, identified several among the best clinics in the world where these children will be treated. I also want to add that a budget of about 30 million GEL will be allocated, and we will cover all expenses in full, be it treatment, accommodation, travel, and so on. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

“I greet everyone! I would like to inform you that recently I instructed the Health Minister, and we started working on a very important topic. As you know, we have about 300 children, our citizens, with oncological diseases in Georgia. Of course, the state finances their treatment. About 10 million GEL is allocated per year for them. But you also know that, unfortunately, not all conditions are presently in place today in Georgia for children with oncological diseases to receive full and, more importantly, quality services, so it is often necessary to treat such children abroad, with such services as proton therapy, laser treatment, and others, which costs many thousands of US dollars, and in some cases may cost as much as 100,000 euros. Of course, our citizens cannot afford it, not everyone can afford it, nor can the state, because we have certain limitations in this direction.

The State Referral Service Program finances services of this type. Consequently, since this matter remained unsolved and unregulated, on our decision, 300 oncology patients, children, will receive full financing from the state. We have selected, identified several among the best clinics in the world where these children will be treated. I also want to add that a budget of about 30 million GEL will be allocated, and we will cover all expenses in full, be it treatment, accommodation, travel, and so on. Thus, all children diagnosed with oncological diseases will be financed by the state. These are about 300 children a year.

This is of course a very important decision, and it is about saving lives, and it is our duty to help everyone. It is very commendable that we have been able to find necessary finances to this end.

I also would like to remind you that, a few years ago, we established the Solidarity Fund on my initiative, within the scope of which we have financed treatment for about 1,000 beneficiaries, children, with 25 million GEL. These are oncology patients and, after this program, none of the children will have a problem with financing. Not a single family will have a problem. We will treat everyone in the best clinics recognized across the world”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
