Georgia is still paying the price for the policy, which, of course, did not start on February 24, 2022, it started in Georgia in 2008 - Catherine Colonna

85% of the population of Georgia is in favor of Georgia’s integration with the European Union, this is a number that makes us think and gives us a vision of the future. Such a statement the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Catherine Colonna, who is visiting Georgia, made at a joint press conference after meeting her Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili.

“I came to give you a message of support. With this visit, we would like to share with you our attitude towards your sovereignty, territorial integrity, which in this region is complex, difficult and recently especially tense, due to the aggression that Russia is carrying out by invading Ukraine.

We want Russia to end this war. Georgia knows all this very well, because it is still paying the price for the policy, which, of course, did not start on February 24, 2022, it started in Georgia in 2008. I want to say that Georgia can count on France’s solidarity.

We also discussed the issue of Georgia’s candidate status for joining the European Union. This is very important for the Georgian people. When I arrived in Tbilisi, I saw a large number of European flags. As far as I know, there were pro-European demonstrations in the spring. 85% of the population of Georgia is in favor of Georgia’s integration with the EU, this is a number that makes us think and gives us a vision of the future.

Regarding this issue, Georgia and Europe are united. We want to make this future concrete. This is a complex process that has already begun. I think it is a historic opportunity. We are with Georgia to help Georgia on this path. It is necessary to move forward, to make progress”, - said the Minister.
