Voting for the set-up of Interim Fact-Finding Commission on the so-called call centers activities failed

The Parliament discussed the set-up of the Interim Fact-Finding Commission on Transnational Crimes committed by organized crime groups through the fraudulent “call centers” and possible undue response thereto.

As one of the initiators, Mikheil Daushvili elucidated, scrutiny by the Commission shall include: possible transnational crimes committed by organized crime groups since 2020 by means of the fraudulent “call-centers”, the realization schemes and liable persons; possible undue response by the respective state agencies, the reasons for the system failures and the liable persons; direct or indirect international political and economic risks associated with the possible crimes and their possible consequences to the national interests of Georgia.

“Inasmuch as we witness undue and ineffective response by the law-enforcement agencies to this immense transnational crime scheme, naturally, the duty of the Parliament is to timely scrutinize the undue response and play a positive and proactive role in terms of the EU and NATO integration. We shall understand that if we fail, thus, we will pose a threat to compliance with the EU recommendations and receipt of the EU candidate status”, - said the reporter.

The respective Draft Resolution is authored and initiated by over 30 opposition MPs. However, due to the absence of a quorum, the voting failed.
