The Speaker of the Parliament held a meeting with members of the Senate and the European Union and European Affairs Committees of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic.
During the discussion, Shalva Papuashvili stressed the significance of regular engagements with delegations from EU member states as Georgia progresses on its path towards EU membership. He provided an update on the progress made in implementing the 12 recommendations of the EU and expressed optimism that Georgia’s efforts would be duly assessed by the end of the year, leading to the European Council granting Georgia the status of a candidate country.
Vladislav Vilímec, the Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee of the Czech Senate, emphasized that Georgia enjoys strong support within the Czech Parliament. He acknowledged that alignment with EU values requires sustained efforts, even after joining the EU. Considering the current geopolitical situation, he advocated for flexibility in evaluating the implementation of the 12 recommendations. He expressed his support for granting EU candidate status to Georgia, aligning with the views of the Visegrád Group.
