The National Statistics Office of Georgia celebrated 104th anniversary from its foundation. On 25 July of 1919 year the first Statistics Office of the country was established. Therefore, the aforementioned date is related to the commencement of official statistics maintenance in Georgia.
In May of 1918, following declaration of independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, the issue of establishment of statistics office, aimed at compiling social and economic statistical indicators depicting ongoing occurrences in the country, arose.
The next measure, in order to leverage of the statistics agency, was taken on 25 July of 1919 - after adoption of the Law “on Foundation of Central Statistics Committee” by the founding meeting of Georgia, on the basis of which Central Statistics Committee of the Republic was established, which was authorized to carry out all statistical activities of state importance.
