The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) was granted the right to hold the largest energy forum in Georgia. GNERC will host the event in 2026. Commissioner Giorgi Pangani presented GNERC’s proposal to host WFER IX in 2026 in Georgia at the 8th World Energy Forum held in Lima, Peru, which was highly rated by delegates from the energy sectors of different countries.
During his speech, Giorgi Pangani introduced the main directions of the event planned in Georgia to the participants of the forum. He also focused on the importance of diversifying energy resources and developing green energy.
“In a highly competitive environment, GNERC was granted the right to hold the World Forum on Energy Regulation in Georgia, which is a great victory not only for GNERC but also for Georgia’s energy sector and recognition of GNERC as a successful regulatory commission worldwide. Regulatory bodies and energy policymakers play a crucial role in promoting fair approaches, competition, innovation, and standards for energy sustainability. Therefore, effective cooperation among all key players and sharing knowledge and best practices is extremely important to ensure the continuous development of countries’ energy directions,” noted Giorgi Pangani.
In 2026, more than 1,000 high-level delegates will visit Tbilisi within the framework of the World Energy Regulation Forum. In particular, representatives from 40 various countries, member states of the Energy Community, associations, government agencies, energy and donor organizations will attend the ninth World Energy Forum. The forum will discuss the current situation and challenges in the worldwide energy sector, investment issues, and the role of renewable energies in developing sustainable energy. One of the main topics at the forum will be Georgia’s energy potential and investment environment.
The World Forum on Energy Regulation has been held every three years since 2000 under the International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER). ICER members include various organizations such as the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER), National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), and Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA).
