Families of 35 citizens who died during the natural disaster in Racha and Guria will receive a one-off monetary assistance of GEL 20 000 from the state

Thirty-two people, our fellow citizens, died in this tragedy, major natural disaster, which is why we had relevant discussions, and we have decided to issue one-off monetary assistance to the families of the victims of the recent natural disasters: 20,000 GEL for each victim, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at today’s Government meeting.

“Once again, I would like to touch on the tragedies in Shovi and, a few days ago, in Guria that claimed three lives. And 32 people, our fellow citizens, died in this tragedy, major natural disaster in Shovi. Consequently, we had relevant discussions, and we have decided to issue one-off monetary assistance to the families of the victims of the recent natural disasters: 20,000 GEL for each victim.

I also would like to say that the homes of many of our fellow citizens were damaged or destroyed. It is impossible to stay, to live in those houses. We discussed this matter at the Economic Council’s meeting, and we have decided that all citizens whose homes have been destroyer or are currently unusable will be resettled-all of them without exception.

And these families will be given homes: we will buy or build homes for them, or provide them with money to buy homes. I also wanted to tell our Guria residents that they have nothing to worry about. We will help them in every way and solve all their problems. The remaining work is underway, and disaster recovery processes are in full swing in the region. I avail myself of this opportunity to inform the public that many Georgian companies stood by the state in Shovi’s disaster recovery work, and I would like to tell you that they have not received a single tetri from the budget.

It was their own decision. We are talking about millions, and they sincerely made this contribution. And I express my sincere gratitude to every company that contributed in this way. We will issue detailed information with the names of the companies that participated in the disaster recovery work in Shovi”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
