Within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili met with his Romanian counterpart, Luminica Odobescu.
The ministers emphasized the close, friendly relations and strategic partnership between Georgia and Romania.
Special attention was focused on the progress made by Georgia to become a full member of the European Union and the support provided by Romania in this direction.
The ministers also reviewed the security environment in the region and the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
The Georgian Foreign Minister thanked his Romanian colleague for her steadfast support of Georgia"s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European integration.
The sides emphasized the need to fully use the potential of the Black Sea, including in the fields of connectivity, transport and energy. In this regard, the importance of the quadrilateral agreement on the Black Sea submarine electric cable signed in Romania was highlighted.
Successful cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the United Nations was also noted.
Ilia Darchiashvili invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania to visit Georgia.
