In the IV quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 0.7% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 15.3%.
In the IV quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of 2022, the number of hired employees increased by 74.3 thousand persons (8.4%) and reached 958.4 thousand, while the number of self-employed decreased by 6.6 thousand (1.6%) and equaled to 413.8 thousand. In the same period, the number of unemployed decreased by 0.9 thousand (0.4%) and equaled 248.6 thousand.
In the IV quarter of 2023, the labour force participation rate (share of the labour force in the total population aged 15 and older) increased by 1.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2022 and became 54.3%, while the employment rate increased 1.8% and amounted to 46.0%. The labour force participation rate in urban settlements increased by 1.9% and in rural settlements - by 1.2% compared to the previous year, while the employment rate increased by 1.7% in urban settlements, in rural areas - by 1.8% and equaled 47.5 and 43.9%, respectively.
In the IV quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of 2022, the share of hired employed in the total number of employed increased by 2.1% and equaled 69.8%. In the IV quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of 2022, the unemployment rate decreased in urban settlements by 0.2% while in rural settlements - by 1.6%.
Traditionally, the unemployment rate is higher for men than for women. In the IV quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of 2022, this indicator decreased for women by 0.3% while for men - by 1.0% and equaled 13.5 and 16.8%, respectively. The labour force participation rate is higher for men than for women. In the IV quarter of 2023, the indicator for women was 44.3% and for men – 65.95. The labour force participation rate for women increased by 1.65%, while for men it increased by 1.9%, compared to the corresponding period of 2022. In the IV quarter of 2023, the employment rate for women increased by 1.5, while for men - by 2.2%, compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
