Our question to the EU is simple: is the "vetting" conducted by Zurab Adeishvili and Nona Tsotsoria an example for us? - Papuashvili

The Chairman of Parliament expressed today [March 7] his concern over the presence of Zurab Adeishvili [wanted former Prosecutor General, Justice Minister of Georgia] in the European Union institution.

Shalva Papuashvili underlined the need for an explanation from the EU officials regarding Adeishvili’s presence in EU institutions.

The Speaker condemned former official’s role in practice of torture and business racketeering under the previous Government, characterising him as an embodiment of everything “anti-European and anti-humane”.

“There is a certain cynicism in the photos we saw where Zurab Adeishvili is in Brussels, most likely to discuss justice-related matters, sitting in the conference rooms of the European Union institutions.

It is unfortunate and I hope that the EU Ambassador to Georgia will clarify this matter”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.

He also focused on Adeishvili’s involvement in vetting processes in Ukraine and Moldova, questioning whether the EU viewed him as an example to follow.

“Our question to the European Union is simple: is the “vetting” conducted by Zurab Adeishvili and Nona Tsotsoria an example for us?”, - added the Speaker of the Parliament.
