Transparency of foreign funding is a matter of political and economic security of the state - Papuashvili

Transparency of foreign funding is a matter of political and economic security of the state, the regulation of this issue is only the competence of the Georgian people and its government. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Parliament.

“The Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness obliges donors to be responsible for the results of their funding to their partners. For a year I personally met with representatives of donors, NED management, representatives of embassies and tried to convince them.

In the end, everyone agreed that there are funds that hide their funding in Georgia, however, unfortunately we could not move forward and instead of fulfilling the promise and making foreign funding transparent, we got more secrecy. Moreover, during this one year we periodically found out that it turns out that political parties, radical groups are financed from such funds that the campaign of the radical organization Shame Movement, which romanticized the “Molotov cocktail” and burning people, is financed by the money of the citizens of the US and the European Union. We have been finding out about this from time to time, but we have not been able to get any results in the form of transparency. Of course, therefore, the state is obliged to provide this transparency for the citizens.

The transparency of foreign funding is a matter of economic and political security of the state, therefore only the Georgian people and the government elected by them are competent to decide how these security issues will be resolved.

Foreign actors are not allowed to speak here. Here words are only to the Georgian people. Only the Georgian people know what is good for their security. Especially when foreign actors themselves are interested parties in this issue”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
