The Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber (Lower House of the Parliament of Uzbekistan), Nuriddinjon Ismoilov.
The counterparts underlined the close political and economic links between the countries. Speaker Papuashvili extended his gratitude to Uzbekistan for the unwavering support of the territorial integrity of Georgia. The discourse included bilateral relations, including parliamentary ties and cooperation in the trade and energy sectors.
According to Ismoilov, Georgia has a rich history of parliamentarism. The parties agreed on further enhancement of parliamentary links through the Memorandum of cooperation, including between the Committees and Friendship Groups, also on close collaboration at the international parliamentary platforms.
The parties accentuated that 2024 is the 30th anniversary of Georgia-Uzbekistan diplomatic relations and expressed the commitment to bolstering relations. In this regard, the emphasis was placed on the opening of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Georgia. Speaker Papuashvili invited his Uzbekistani counterpart to Georgia.
The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the Speaker and the Parliamentary Delegation to Central Asia.
