Bob De Brabandere, a member of the Belgian Senate and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, on Friday said the European Union leaders often used attacks against the states that were not following their agenda, and further added that the Georgian Government had every right to adopt a bill on transparency.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Brabandere noted that the criticism over the bill on transparency of foreign influence from the EU leaders Charles Michel and Josep Borrell was an “undemocratic” act and an attack on the sovereign state.
“I think that such criticism from the EU towards a state that is not yet a member state once again proves the direction the bloc is heading. This bill envisages the registration in the public register of non-profit entities, whose funding is more than 20 percent from abroad.
I think the Georgian authorities have every right to adopt such a law, however, in recent years we see that the European Union, which was founded as a democratic institution, is becoming more and more undemocratic. The current leaders of the European Union are serving a specific agenda, this agenda is anti-conservative, undemocratic and against freedom of speech. As individual states try to protect themselves from all of this, European leaders insist on doing so. I think that because of the initiation of this bill, they are attacking Georgia for the same reason. There is also criticism in Hungary, which is a Christian and conservative state, which does not specifically move in the line that the European Union wants”, - said Bob De Brabandere.
