Strengthening of strategic cooperation in rural and agricultural development, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation was discussed on Monday between the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Georgia.
Otar Shamugia introduced Didier Trebucq to ongoing projects implemented by his Ministry and related progress in legislation, while also expressing gratitude to the UN for its support in the process.
“With the support of the UN, we are implementing important projects in the direction of both agriculture and environmental protection. In order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, we have implemented a number of reforms in the environmental direction, supporting programmes for agriculture are underway, which help farmers, entrepreneurs and citizens living in rural areas to produce quality products, get more income and improve socio-economic conditions”, - said Otar Shamugia.
“The UN would continue to support Georgia, it is necessary to work with local communities and promote development of the agricultural sector to achieve sustainable development and reduce poverty”, - added Didier Trebucq.
