Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia met John DiPirro, Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI) Georgia Program today.
The discussion focused on the parliamentary elections scheduled for this year. The Prime Minister assured the visitor that the government will continue to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and democratic environment. Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized that to maximize the transparency of the electoral process, a number of international organizations have been invited to observe the elections, both short-term and long-term observer missions.
Amendments made to the Election Code of Georgia were also reviewed at the meeting and the necessity was stressed for a reduced political polarization to conduct the election campaign in a calm and healthy environment.
