We are in the process of reviewing our aid to Georgia - James O’Brien

The Georgian Dream wrote the obligations to join the EU and NATO in the constitution and is turning in another direction, why? It’s a bit difficult to find out. Such a statement made the US Under Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“It seems that there are elites in Georgia who are looking for other people, they are turning their backs on the path to the European Union and NATO. This party actually wrote the obligations of joining the EU and NATO in the constitution and is turning in another direction. Why? It is a bit difficult to find out.

So we try to be very clear about what needs to be done and how important it is, because Georgia requires membership in clubs, one of which we are a part of, and the other is our key partner. They are not allowed to change the rules of these clubs in order to join.

So, first of all, we are in the process of reviewing our aid to Georgia. We really want to support everything that will help free and fair elections - they have parliamentary elections, but we must make it clear to the Georgian Dream party that there will be real results. There will be a postponement of major military exercises and we will continue to review what we are doing, I hope there will be an opportunity to say that”, - said James O’Brien.
