Global Change Data Lab in collaboration with Oxford University published the Political Regime Index 2023, which had ranked Georgia among the top 20 countries in Europe with electoral democracy.
The interactive report is based on a large-scale survey of the Varieties of Democracy Institute [V-Dem].
The Political Regime Index divides countries into 4 categories: Liberal democracies / Electoral democracies / Electoral autocracies / Closed autocracies.
Georgia was named among the top 20 European countries with electoral democracy along with such countries as Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, etc.
Georgia is also ahead of all neighbouring countries, 6 EU and NATO member states such as Poland, Hungary, Turkey, North Macedonia, Albania, and Montenegro [in liberal democracy assessment].
Besides, Georgia ranks 11th globally with 11 years of progress in the assessment of liberal democracy.
