The Georgian national flag is flown at half-mast outside the Presidential Palace in observance of the mourning day.

The Government of Georgia declared January 9 the day of mourning to honour the lives of 5 children who perished in a tragic fire in the village of Saberio in the Russian-occupied Gali district.

On December 5, five minors died in a fire in the Russian-occupied village of Saberio, Abkhazia.
