Only two of nine families living in Tvalchrelidze Street accepted municipality`s rental assistance - Kaladze

Mayor of Tbilisi announced that 9 families living in a condemned building on Tvalchrelidze Street No. 1 are officially registered residents of the city. He added that the municipality has extended offers to provide them with rental assistance.

"Many accusations have been made against the City Hall, but I want to clarify that the city`s municipality bears no responsibility for this situation. The property in question is private, and ongoing legal disputes have complicated matters.

Some individuals have unlawfully entered the dilapidated building, which must be emptied. This is akin to someone breaking into your own home and settling there. The owner has won a court case confirming ownership, and given the structural damage and safety concerns, eviction is necessary.

There are nine families registered in Tbilisi. The municipality offered them rental assistance, and two have accepted and are using this support.

The remaining families declined the offer. I want to be clear: this is a legal enforcement issue, not a municipal problem. The court has ruled in favour of the owner, and enforcement is currently underway", - said Kakha Kaladze.
