Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules said that it was noteworthy that the departure of German Ambassador Peter Fischer coincided with a comparatively more pragmatic approach from Germany.

His comments came after the scheduling of the ceremony for Aleksandre Kartozia to present his credentials to the German President, as well as the removal from the website of Germany’s Foreign Ministry of the page where Salome Zourabichvili was referred to as the current President of Georgia.

“Gradually, common sense is prevailing within the German authorities. We are ready and open to relations. For us, the historical friendship with Germany and the German people is very important, as is the complete restoration of this friendship.

What the German ambassador who served here at the time damaged through his actions, through the anti-Georgian nature of his conduct, we want all of this to be restored. The ball is truly in Germany’s court. It is noteworthy that the ambassador’s departure and Germany’s relatively more reasonable approach coincided”, - said David Matikashvili.
