David Songulashvili meets with the Heads of regional services of LLC “Georgian Amelioration” to review ongoing irrigation activities and future plans

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songulashvili, held a meeting with the General Director of LLC “Georgian Amelioration”, Gigla Tamazashvili, and the Heads of the company’s regional services to receive updates on ongoing irrigation activities, existing challenges, and plans for future activities.

The meeting aimed to assess the progress of rehabilitation and operational works carried out across the regions, identify current needs, and discuss measures to ensure the uninterrupted provision of high-quality services to water users.

“Similar meetings enable us to gain a comprehensive understanding of ongoing processes, hear about current challenges in the regions, and determine the areas where additional support is required. Irrigation remains one of the key priorities today. We are actively implementing rehabilitation projects, have ambitious development plans, and are working with international organizations and donor institutions to facilitate the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects.

While rehabilitation works have been affected by various factors, including weather conditions, it is essential to ensure that activities are underway without interruption and that farmers face no obstacles in receiving water during the irrigation season”, - said David Songulashvili.

During the meeting Gigla Tamazashvili, highlighted the importance of regional services in ensuring the effective implementation of irrigation programs. He noted that meetings in this format contribute to improved coordination of ongoing activities, timely identification of challenges, and more effective planning of future actions: “It is essential that the Minister receives first-hand information directly from the regional services on the currently most pressing and strategically important issues. At the meeting, we reviewed both rehabilitation and operational works. Notably, the level of contracted projects remains high, and despite challenging weather conditions, activities are progressing. We have also planned field visits, during which the Minister will personally inspect the ongoing works in the regions”.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Lasha Dolidze, and the Head of the Department of Irrigation and Land Management Policy, Beka Dzadzamia, attended the meeting.
