Adjara police arrested 2 people for extortion committed in group

As a result of a complex investigation, officers of Batumi Police Division of Adjara Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested two foreign citizens on charges of extortion committed in group.

The investigation established that the defendants introduced themselves to the foreign citizen under fictitious names and promised to arrange employment and residence documents in Georgia. In exchange for the mentioned services, they demanded payment of 3,000 euros in advance.

After arriving in Adjara, the defendants received 3,000 euros, an ID card, and a SIM card from the man, which they did not return despite requests. They threatened to kill him if the incident was made public.

As a result of immediate investigative actions, law enforcement officers arrested both individuals as defendants.

The investigation into the fact of extortion is underway under Article 181, Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisioning the imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years.
