Chairmen of court should be elected by Judges and not Council of Justice - non-governmental sector

The NGO sector addresses a new composition of the High Council of Justice with recommendations. In particular, the civil sector belive that Chairpersons should be elected by judges and not by the Council of Justice.

Representatives of NGOs call upon the High Council of Justice to make the necessary decisions regarding the system change.

The statement will be released today by the Coalition for Independent and Transparent Judiciary. Non-governmental sector believes that it is necessary to involve the legislative body in the case.

"We have sharply criticized the previous composition because it could not guarantee fair and justified procedure in the selection process. Therefore, there is skepticism, but we are ready to offer our views on specific issues, and one of them is definitely the choice of judges.

"Our approach is that the chairmen of the court should be elected by the judges themselves and not the High Council of Justice," - said ITP representative Giorgi Beraia.
