The conversation about the transfer of Eliava market was started when authors of the Tbilisi General Plan decided to develop a recreational zone on this territory. The market itself should go to 2 locations in Isani.
The final version of the General Plan has not yet been approved by the City Hall.
Owners of the market oppose the transfer of Eliava to another territory. As it is known, the market is distributed on 7 hectares and each plot has a separate owner.
It is unacceptable for proprietors to turn the Eliava market into a recreational zone, as they say, the Tbilisi government has to pay the appropriate amount from the budget. The owners themselves offer to the capital city the arrangement of this area and the recreation zone on their part by offering their own funds.
Temur Andriadze, head of the initiative group of Eliava Foundation, said that according to the plan, the City Hall will have to spend a large amount of money on the "Hypothetical" garden and it is better to listen to the shareholders .
"The vision that relates to transfer the Eliava market is absolutely wrong and I do not agree because 15,000 people are employed at a Eliava market and it brings millions of lari to the budget," said Gia Andriadze.
