14 foreign investors shut down bars and cafes on Agmashenebeli avenue in protest

14 foreign investors closed the bars and cafes on the renovated Aghmashenebeli Avenue in protest.

The radical decision was made after the City Hall demanded the dismantling of open terraces on the pedestrian street and threatened them with fines.

16 café bars in the Aghmashenebeli Avenue closed down in protest, out of which 14 owners are foreign investors.

The heads of the bars were warned a few days ago that if the owners placed tables and chairs in front of the bar, they would be fined with 10000 GEL.

Owners of cafes say that the decision of the City Hall is incomprehensible to them, as guests of open cafes are foreign tourists.

Also, the owners of the bars say that only 16 bars have been warned, and the rest of the bars continue to work on an outdoor perimeter today.

Human rights activist Aleksandre Akhalkatsi says that such facts indicate selective justice.

"It is interesting that 90% of owners of these 16 bars are foreigners The logical conclusion is that there is indirect pressure on foreign investors, especifically on this street, "said Aleksandre Akhalkatsi.

Givi Duchidze, chairman of the Assosiation of Bars explains that only café-bars owners have been warned who did not pass proper procedures in the City Hall.
