The director of the psychiatric clinic confirms the acute criticism of the Public Defender with regard to the unbearable conditions in the institution.

According to him, the building was built 100 years ago and it does not meet the basic conditions. However, despite repeated requests, the Ministry of Health did not allocate funds for rehabilitation.

"The infrastructure is to be renovated. For almost 100 years, this hospital has existed. Serious, capital repair has never been done. What you see, this is done by our forces, "said Vakhtang Amiranashvili.

The Ministry of Health said that the building is on the balance of the Ministry of Economy, but at this stage the funds are being taken to repair the works.

The Public Defender published a critical conclusion on the Surami Psychiatric Clinic, where there are no elementary living conditions in the institution and the patients are in the hardest conditions. Nino Lomjaria emphasizes lack of staff, low level of their qualifications, violence and other systemic challenges.
