One person was accused by the Georgia Prosecutor’s Office of attempting to dispose a sizable quantity of drugs in a group.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ investigation revealed that on March 1, 2 individuals traveled to one of the villages in the Samtredia municipality and took a sizable quantity of the narcotic drug methadone (base), which was packed in polyethylene bags and taken to one of the villages of Samtredia municipality and put it to the river bank on so-called “locations”. To provide the geographical coordinates to the individuals who purchased the narcotics, they used a phone camera to snap a picture of each spot. The investigation’s findings indicate that both individuals used narcotics after this, and one of them most likely overdosed on drugs and died.

On March 2, the accused were taken into custody by law the law enforcement officers. He was charged under Georgian Criminal Code Article 19, Article 260 of the Fifth Part, Sub-Paragraph “b” and the Seventh Part of Sub-Paragraph “A” (trying to dispose large amount of narcotic drugs in a group), which carries a fourteen to twenty year or life sentence in prison. As a precautionary measure, the accused has already been sentenced to prison by the court based on the prosecutor’s office’s application.

On March 3, the workers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from so-called “locations” extracted a notably substantial quantity of 3.35 grams of drugs that the defendants had packaged and arranged in 24 separate pieces.

Regarding the individual who supposedly overdosed on drugs, a suitable medical investigation was scheduled to ascertain the reason of his death.

Going forward, the Prosecutor’s Office will continue to enforce a strict criminal law policy against drug dealers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to investigate into the aforementioned criminal case.
