The Prime Minister of Georgia said today it was with “dignity and self-sacrifice for the homeland that we can overcome the biggest challenges, maintain peace for Georgia, unite the country, and achieve the most important national goals”.
In his remarks on the occasion of the 903rd anniversary of the Didgori Battle, Irakli Kobakhidze noted that the Battle had played a “decisive” role in defining the European identity of Georgia.
“Today we celebrate the most important date in the history of our homeland. The victory in the Battle of Didgori is an immortal example of Georgian unity and perseverance, military glory and heroism.
This victory determined the further development of our country in many ways. The victory won nine centuries ago is one of the greatest military and strategic victories in world history. This victory created a solid foundation for strengthening Georgia"s freedom and statehood.
The victory in the Battle of Didgori marked the beginning of the golden age of Georgian history - its political, economic, cultural, religious, educational revival. It was after the Battle of Didgori that Georgia had finally established itself as the strongest state in the region.
At the same time, it was the day of the greatest victory of Christian values, on which the national identity of Georgia and the unique Georgian culture are still based. Consequently, the Battle of Didgori played a decisive role in defining the European identity of Georgia, which is the basis of our quest for integration into the European family today”, - said the Head of the Government.
