The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has appointed Giorgi Modebadze as a judge of the Constitutional Court.

Modebadze has many years of experience in the judicial system and previously served as First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.

Under Article 60 of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court consists of 9 judges appointed for a term of 10 years - 3 are appointed by the President, 3 are elected by Parliament by a three-fifths majority, and 3 are appointed by Supreme Court.

Giorgi Modebadze’s appointment follows the early termination of the mandate of Judge Irine Imerlishvili, who was appointed by the President in 2016. Her powers were terminated as of October 20, 2025, based on her own application and by decree of the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court.
