Police seized illegal firearms and ammunition across Georgia

Law enforcement officers have seized up to 20 illegal firearms and ammunition across Georgia over the past week.

Officers of the Patrol Police, Tbilisi Police, Guria, Kvemo and Shida Kartli Police Departments have arrested 13 individuals on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition, some of with previous convictions.

During personal and other search activities held in detainees` residential homes, storage facilities and vehicles, police officers seized various types of automatic firearms, rifles and ammunition as evidence.

The committed crime envisions up to 7 years in prison.

The investigation is underway under Article 236, I, III and IV parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

All relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, throughout the country, continue to fight against crime and implement preventive measures on a daily basis, with the aim of ensuring a safe environment.
