Shalva Papuashvili met with the President of the National Assembly of Serbia

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić.

Shalva Papuashvili highlighted the significance of the First Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of EU Candidate Countries, currently taking place in Belgrade.

The meeting underscored the importance of enhanced exchange of experience and mutual support among EU candidate countries.

The parties also discussed the growing bilateral relations between Georgia and Serbia, with particular emphasis on the productive high-level presidential visits conducted in recent years.

Shalva Papuashvili thanked the Serbian side for its support for Georgia's territorial integrity and reaffirmed Georgia`s support for the territorial integrity of Serbia. The parties discussed opportunities to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation, including between the parliamentary friendship groups and sectoral committees.

The meeting also reviewed the European integration processes of both countries and the challenges encountered along that path.

Ana Brnabić noted that Serbia has been awaiting progress in its EU accession negotiations for several years, a process that has been delayed due to the opposition of several countries. She also stated that Georgia has been successfully developing its economy, implementing reforms, and steadfastly safeguarding its sovereignty.

The meeting took place within the framework of Shalva Papuashvili`s official visit to the Republic of Serbia, aimed at participating in the First Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of EU Candidate Countries.
