Martin Schulz to run as Social Democrat candidate for German chancellor

A former President of European Parliament - Martin Schulz is set to be the leading candidate of the German Social-Democratic Party (SPD) for the elections. His candidacy will be voted on Sunday, at the party congress, where Martin Schulz will address the delegates and present the election program.

If approved as a candidate the European Parliament"s former president will run against Angela Merkel.

The elections will be held in Germany in September 2017.
