The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili spoke about the occupation and constitution to the European Parliament members today. Margvelashvili met with them in Batumi, where an international conference is underway. After the meeting with the President, the European Parliamentarions made a big comment. Ana Gomez said that the constitution can not strengthes democracy with credibility and legitimacy if there is no consensus .

"We understand that the constitutional process aims at strengthening democracy, but the most important is that there is consensus. The Constitution can not strengthen the credibility of democracy and legitimacy if there is no consensus not only between political parties but also civil society.
As for the kidnapping of Afgan Mukhtarli, we recently received a resolution in the European Parliament in which we expressed our concerns. We expect the Georgian authorities to investigate what happened when the citizen of foreign country was abducted and whether the Georgian Security Service was involved.
We want to express solidarity to the Georgian people. We do not recognize illegal occupation, which Georgian people are bravely countering . This occupation will never be recognized, " - said Ana Gomez, a member of the European Parliament.

According to Rebecca Harmes, the European Parliament, it is never good when the government acts with the vast majority of the parliament.

"We discussed human rights issues, as well as electoral and constitutional reform. In my opinion, from the European perspective it is never good when the government has a vast majority in Parliament and acts without the involvement of the opposition and civil society. As for occupation, the problem of frozen conflicts has become more evident in the European Parliament in 2014, since we see the ongoing war in Ukraine and occupation of Crimea. It became clear that Russia`s strategy for destabilization in the region continues. In my opinion, it is necessary that the EU finds a common answer to the sovereignty issues of our partner countries. It does not mean that I think of military solution, but in my opinion the EU must use its economic power, " -
