Zelensky urges new sanctions against Russia and praises common understanding with Australia

Volodymyr Zelensky has urged for new sanctions against Russia, “powerful sanctions, until they stop blackmailing other countries with their missiles”.

“We have to stop any business activity with Russia. We have to stop any intention of Russia to bypass the sanctions”, - said the President of Ukraine.

He has thanked Australia for delivering coal to Ukraine to aid its energy supply, however he has asked for military equipment, including Australia’s Bushmaster armoured vehicles, saying they would “strengthen our armaments”.

“The distance between the countries is huge, but is bridged by a common understanding. Geography doesn’t matter … what matters is humanity and the dream … the dream of bringing back a peaceful life”, - he said.

Zelensky spoke of Ukraine bringing aid to other countries before the pandemic and the Russian invasion.

“Our dream was bringing life … now this is not possible, as a country with different values had started a war. They are shelling our cities … they are killing our children, they are holding hostage hundreds of thousands of people in cities without water”, - concluded Ukrainian leader.
