First and foremost, the Georgian state, its government and the Georgian people themselves must look after Georgia’s well-being, because no one else will do what we must do for ourselves - Kobakhidze

The Georgian state, its government and the Georgian people themselves must look after Georgia`s well-being, because no one else will do what we must do for ourselves. The Prime Minister of Georgia said this at today`s briefing at the Government Administration.

"Most importantly, following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, both the previous US administration and European bureaucrats and leaders, directly or indirectly, repeatedly called for Georgia to open a second front against Russia.

In doing so, they placed on the agenda not merely the question of our country's sovereignty, national identity and economy, but the very question of Georgia`s survival as a state.

This is precisely what the policy of the European bureaucracy looks like today.

When we consider all of this as a whole, it becomes even clearer that individual EU member states and institutions, which are influenced by informal oligarchic forces, act first and foremost in accordance with the instructions they receive and their own political interests. The key point here is not whether we agree with particular political decisions, but rather that these examples once again clearly demonstrate the fundamental principle governing the conduct of states: every state acts first and foremost in accordance with its own interests.

All of this leads to a rhetorical question: can we really afford to believe that any state-for example, the United States, the countries of the European Union, Russia or any other power-would act against its own interests for the benefit of Georgia?!

The answer is, of course, unequivocal: first and foremost, the Georgian state, its government and the Georgian people themselves must look after Georgia`s well-being, because no one else will do what we must do for ourselves. We cannot expect other states to safeguard our national interests on our behalf, because for every state, its own national interests are the priority", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
