Four people were killed and 14 others injured when an explosion struck the largest US military base in Afghanistan early on Saturday, officials said.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the explosion at the NATO air base at Bagram, north of the Afghan capital of Kabul. According to the Taliban, 23 US soldiers were killed in the attack for which they had been preparing for four months.

Taliban organized the attack at the Germanconsulate in Afghanistan yesterday, which killed 6 people. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier thanked Georgian soldiers participating in the Afghanistan mission for repelling the attack on the German Consulate to Afghanistan.
