In case of Russian aggression the US will defend the security of its allies - the head of the Pentagon

The Pentagon chief Ashton Carter said that the US does not want a confrontation with Russia, but will ensure the security of its allies in the context of the Russian threat.

About this Carter said, speaking at a forum on national defense.

“We do not want to consider Russia as the enemy, but will defend its allies and world order,” he said.

Carter called Russia’s actions in Syria are counterproductive, accusing Russia of escalating nuclear threats, aggressive intentions towards Ukraine, the Baltic countries. Russian provocations that have taken place in the last time “is not what the world expects from responsible participants in the 21st century.”

For over 25 years before NATO did not attempt to engage in containment on the Eastern flank, but now stands, said Carter.

He also noted the need to strengthen the armed forces, in order to make it understand: “if they start war, we will win.”

Recall, the U.S. Congress banned the Pentagon to cooperate with Russia, until it encroaches on the territory of Ukraine.
