NATO Secretary-General believes that the NATO intervention in the Syrian conflict will further exacerbate the situation. Jens Stoltenberg announced it in an interview to the German The Bild newspaper .

According to Stoltenberg, Syria is experiencing a terrible humanitarian disaster, however involvement of the NATO military forces creates the threat of deepening of the conflict at the regional level and may result in even more death of innocent people.

During the interview, NATO Secretary General spoke about Russia and stressed that the alliance did not want a new Cold War, but Stoltenberg welcomed the continuation of the EU sanctions against Moscow .
