"Rustavi 2"case and media freedom - the European Parliament voted on resolution against attacks on journalists

Rustavi-2-related events were added to the PACE resolution on media freedom adopted at the plenary session of the European council. The resolution was supported by 121 MPs.

The amendment wasintroduced at the request of the Estonian MP Eric Cross. The representatives of the Georgian Dream did not agree with the amendment .

The majority members think that the current media disputes do not pose a threat to media freedom in the country.

Finally the Council of Europe voted on the resolution on media freedom and agains tattacks on journalists. The amendment, which states that the attempts to replace owners of the country`s most popular pro-European television company" cause concerns of the international partners and civil society was added to the final version of the resolution.
