Most Catalan voters supported independence from Spain. President of the Autonomous Union made a statement about it late last night. According to official data, 90 percent of the participants in the referendum voted for independence.

Despite the resistance from the police, 42.3% of the voters participated in the poll. 2315 precincts were allocated in the region, but police were able to close 312, and seize documents from some precincts.
In the coming days, the l ocal government plans to send the referendum results to the Catalan parliament, after which the issue of independence will be discussed by the legislative body of autonomous union.

The official Madrid does not recognize the referendum . However, the results of the survey were celebrated throughout the night in the streets of Barcelona and other cities of Catalonia.
