The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia questions the invitation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly observation mission for the 2028 elections. According to Shalva Papuashvili, the organization has shaken the trust of the Georgian people with its recent resolution, which is why the future impartiality of the mission needs to be confirmed.
"As for the year 2028 - it is a fact that in 2024, there was pressure on the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the observation mission to make them falsify the report, and that pressure had no effect at that moment, they failed to push through with this pressure.
Now, when we look at the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly, a question arises as to how sustainable and firm the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly observation mission will be in the future against such pressure.
This resolution has shaken our faith that any future mission of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will stand firm in the face of pressure. Therefore, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly must convince the Georgian people that it will withstand the pressure of the Council of Europe or others just as it withstood it in 2024. With this resolution, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has shaken the Georgian people`s trust in its impartiality; thus, it is important that before 2028, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly restores this trust in the eyes of the Georgian people, so that we can believe they will withstand the pressure of ill-wishers and will not falsify their own report", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
